Sarah’s Jack Petchey trip: KidZania, 14th February 2017
Our most recent Jack Petchey winner, Sarah chose to take the group to KidZania for an afternoon. This is the second time we’ve been to KidZania as a group, and the young people always enjoy their time their when we go. KidZania is an adventure park, where the young people can explore what it’s like to be a grown up. The young people enter a ‘kid city’ in which there are establishments just like you’d find on any high street, a hospital, radio station, grocery store, theatre, chocolate shop, airport and even a tattoo parlor(specialising only in temporary ones).
As part of the experience, each young person gets 50 ‘Kidzos’ to spend on activities within the city. This is the form of currency the young people use to take part in activities or buy food, drinks, or souvenirs. And just like the real world, some activities cost money to take part in, while others that are beneficial to others, like being a nurse, firefighter, window washer or a surgeon, pay you Kidzos in return for your services. There is a bank within the city, and if one has enough Kidzos, they can open a bank account and get a credit to access their Kidzos! There are even Kidzo ATM’s on site! It’s amazing how much it parallels the real adult world.
We tried to see the young people participating in as many activities as possible. One girl participated as nurse, and the most people one seemed to be the theatre. We managed to catch the performance of 4 of our young people in a performance of The Wizard of Oz in which our young people played Dorothy, Scarecrow, Tin Woman and the Wicked Witch!
All in all, everyone seemed to have a blast and didn’t want to leave! A successful Jack Petchey trip and a good time was had by all! We’re halfway through this block of workshops, so it won’t be long before we have an new Jack Petchey winner and will start planning our next adventure.
