Schools: Programme
In 2023 SPID Theatre are thrilled to be launching our inaugural schools programme!
For over 15 years SPID have been at the forefront of devising cutting-edge theatre, which explores the rich and diverse heritage of social housing. Working alongside young people from estates across London we’ve created over 30 different shows, films and exhibitions and recorded hundreds of hours of archival material telling the extraordinary everyday stories of social-housing residents. Our work has been featured by the Guardian, BBC and ITV, with past partners including the V&A Museum, National Archives, Natural History Museum, DTA Radio, The Museum of Brands and the Bush Theatre, with our most recent film “Class Act” screening at the BFI.
Now for the first time ever we’re launching a comprehensive schools workshop series. This free programme is specifically targeted at 16-18 year olds taking the devising component of a Drama or Theatre Studies A-Level. Drawing on our extensive archive of research, photographs, interviews and years of expertise creating new verbatim theatre we aim to:
- Electrify and strengthen the link between devising and the portfolio/working notebook
- Give a students a toolkit of practical strategies for stimulus-based devising
- Provide guidance on devising with a practitioner in mind
- Shine a light on the devising process of a professional theatre company
