Kensal Voices, an intergenerational heritage project exploring the history of Kensal House and its residents, was launched in April 2013 and concluded its first successful year in March 2014. Kensal House is an iconic Grade II* modernist building designed by Maxwell Fry and Elizabeth Denby.

As part of the project, young participants aged 13-25 attended oral history workshops led by author Rib Davis, an accredited trainer in oral history on behalf of the British Library and the Oral History Society. Following the workshops they met with current and former residents of Kensal House who kindly agreed to being interviewed by the young people and share their stories of living on the estate.

These interviews formed an important part of Stories in Residence: Tales of the Sunshine Flats, a site-specific performance created and performed by Kensal Voices participants in different locations on the estate. They are a colourful testimony of the rich and eventful history of Kensal House and show the diversity of its community.
