Kensal Voices Reloaded
Kensal Voices Reloaded is a series of FREE creative workshops led by Mariana Sastre and Nnenna Samson for SPID, assisted by Matthew Smallwood and Sophia Kounoupias. These workshops were a follow up to our hugely successful Kensal Voices programme which featured a performance inspired by Kensal House and its residents.
This year our participants produced a radio play inspired by the memories of a former Kensal House resident and presented a one hour radio show that was broadcast by Kilburn to Kensal Radio. We were also visited by young people from The Challenge who took part in two action packed sessions.

We have now come to the end of this year’s programme. Guided by industry professionals, Kensal Voices Reloaded participants enjoyed learning new skills and produced some brilliant work.
Participants learnt scriptwriting with Nnenna Samson and SPID’s Artistic Director Helena Thompson. They learnt about radio acting and foley (a sound effects technique) with Jack Bowman and then had the opportunity to create a radio play – performing as radio actors and foley artists!
Max Graef recorded the radio play and guided the young people as they produced and presented a radio show broadcast live from Kensal House!
We had a lot of fun taking part in a dance workshop with Nancy Kettle learning dance moves from across the decades. Kensal Voices Reloaded finished with the Big Challenge day led by Matthew Smallwood, with 60 young people taking part in activities throughout Kensal House including creating a mural, poster design, cleaning the building and painting.
