Catching up on Far Far Away
Well, well, well…The spring and summer terms have seen us very busy here at the Far Far Away programme at SPID. We closed off last block with a showing of the film we created All About Us: A Far Far Away Film Workshop, which you can view now on our website. The young people had a lot of fun filming, learning what and who you need to film & learning about the editing process.
Our next big adventure was to the West End! Just after Easter we took our Far Far Away group to see The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time on London’s West End. Although it was a late night for our young people, a good time was had by all! Many were excited to see the show as they had read the book and others had never seen anything like it before.
We started our next block at the end of April, working with two mural artists Milla and Tom to transform the booth the young people use as their area during our workshops. We had 3 workshops with Milla and Tom, looking at the space in and around Kensal House, and figuring out how to incorporate it to decorate our space. It was great to look visually at our art. We drew, cut and pasted and before we knew it, we had a forest filled room, complete with a spider, a fox and even a unicorn!
Our Jack Petchey winner from last block, Amelie, held her trip at the end of May during half term. Amelie used her Jack Petchey funds to sponsor a trip for the group to Ripley’s Believe It or Not! A house full of weird, fun and wonderful things, we spent an afternoon looking at shrunken heads, walking through a black hole tunnel, and exploring a mirror maze! Thanks Amelie for a fun trip!
Time flies as we’ve come to the end of our block already and can hardly believe it! We spent these past 9 sessions working on our acting and drama skills with our facilitator Crystal. Using the mural the young people created as inspiration, we created a showcase of the young people’s talents exploring animals, storytelling and our family histories. We have one final rehearsal today, and then we will be showcasing the show for family & friends. Stay tuned for news of how it went! Break legs! 🙂
